| Green or sustainable design is concerned with the overall impact on the environment of a building or product.
I designed my first passive solar structure in 1979 for the late Walter Beinecke who was called the "Savior of Old Nantucket" by the New York Times www.nytimes.com/2004/05/25/us/walter-beinecke-jr-86-a-savior-of-old-nantucket-dies.html. The building is a lean-to greenhouse designed to provide a nursery for landscape plants and supply heat to the attached barn. Since then, I have promoted the incorporation of passive solar techniques whenever possible. Purplethumb offers custom designed passive solar walls and additions that offer a wonderful environment for both plants and people while saving energy. In additon, we promote the reuse of building components and the use of green materials.
